Courses
We do not teach painting restoration\conservation and strongly advise those seeking employment in this highly skilled profession that correct training is sought from an academic institution.

Without proper course related qualifications you will NOT be considered for employment by any reputable restoration\conservation studio or workshop.

For information regarding formal tuition, ask for prospectuses listing relevant courses from the University of Northumberland, or the Courtauld Institute, for example, or seek advice from your local art college.

Courses taught by individuals in their studios, often as a supplementary income, should be avoided by the serious minded, and those hoping to achieve professional standards, and qualifications.

There are many videos\CDs available on the subject. They may be of interest and give some insight of what the work involves. Some offer good advice and warnings of the dangers the novice may encounter. Others, well, we have had many paintings brought to us by distraught framers, dealers and private owners who have followed the instructions on video tapes, or have taken their treasured painting along to a studio where they were taught how to clean it. After, they have gone home, cleaned another painting the way they were taught, only to find that the painting disintegrates or is damaged in another way.
